You can always expect a good shoot at Mayo, and this was the best so far - and big, fifty targets. Being my first shoot for five months and well out of condition and practice,it was a baptisom of fire. But the variety and the shooting company made it worth the effort. Good weather and no Mayo midges a bonus. My compliments to Mayo Archers lets have more of the type of shoots.

The fifty target shoot was a bit daunting in prospect, but great in practice. Some of those one-arrow shots needed more care than some of us bestowed on them ! It was a really enjoyable day on a lovely course, with evidence of lots of work on the entire round. A new departure was that you had to be over eighteen to claim some of the prizes............. Thank you, everyone.
For those who had a less than perfect overnight stay in local accommodation, I suggest you Goolge ' Lake View House' in Crossmolina, if you are going again. I stayed there and I must say I was very well looked after. Nice people, excellent comfort and good food. (I am not on commission !)

With 49 competitors, Mayo has once again shown that they can draw in the crowds. There's always something unexpected at one of their shoots and this was no exception. I think they were lucky - to tackle 50 targets in the bad conditions would have been just too much for me, but the weather was extremely kind and I truly think we "got our money's worth" and more. And those prizes (Harry has a talented artist in the family) are really fantastic except that, as usual, I didn't get one!

Now that's what i call a shoot!
The weather was brilliant, the course was set out to perfection. The atmosphere was full of dread and excitement as we all waited to hear the start horn. What had Harold and Richie managed to conjure up this time???
I for the first time decided to shoot Trad and I have to say I have a new found admiration for all of you that shoot with wooden arrows. Harry stayed up on Saturday night and made me 6 of the finest arrows I have ever seen so I was full of dread not knowing what would happen on the first target but they sailed right into the middle (don't tell anyone but I think he sprinkled them with magic Pixie Dust. Thank you Harold.
I think i might just shoot this kind of bow again!!!!
Lunch break was great and the banter was high it was great to see all the old heads again.
50 targets might sound a lot and yes we were all a bit tired at the end, but boys o boys did we have some fun. Each shot had its own challenge and the natural look of the 3ds really made you concentrate on getting it right.
All in all a fantastic shoot; one I'm glad I didn't miss. It's great to be able to shoot without feeling under pressure to get a score , maybe we could have more like this in the future?????
I can wait for the next shoot. Well done to all involved; a splendid job indeed. Roll on the next Mayo Shoot.
