As I drove home in my yellow wagon in torrential rain with a gale trying to blow me off the road, glaring headlights plus cramps coming on, I ask myself "was it worth it".
Oh yes - it doubtless was. There were 22 + 22 3Ds with a "pick a peg" ruling, giving 50 or 25 for those shooting from the furthest pegs with diminishing scores for any shots from nearer. I suspect that most folk went for the furthest peg, especially the macho menfolk. I have never come in with a score of 1000 before but you'll see from the results that a grand was not really up to much. How sad.
The weather was calm and dry and the nasty stuff only started as we left.
Thanks to Harry and his merry men (merrypeople) for an most interesting and novel event.

Lovely woods, good weather, interesting target layouts, great company, loads of fun. What more could we ask for?. Can't wait for the next Mayo shoot.!!

Well done to Richard, Harald, Cornelia and the team for setting up one of the very best of competitions. The pick-a-peg turned it into a cross between chess and archery, with the shots placed to make the most of the ground. Despite dire forecasts the going was good and short boots were enough. I'm sorry not to be able to get back for next week. It was agreat day out and thanks to all.

Mayo was on the hitlist for an impending storm on the same day as the shoot but it didn't stop many archers from attending. And it was well worth the effort. With 44 targets (22x2) we all looked forward to a good days shooting. Nine of us had travelled up from Dunbrody.
The weather gamble largely paid off and then we faced the gamble of choosing which peg to shoot from. We could shoot two arrows from any one of five colour coded pegs (all scored differently) and the 3D targets were very well placed, some in interesting clusters to give many choices for the competing archers. Both arrows scored the same which was good but only the first arrow hit counted. There was some fabulously high scoring on the day (alas not by me though!) and the weather only deteriorated near the end, but then when it did, it turned nasty.
The atmosphere was terrific and the prizes were lovely.
A great day all round,
Well done Harry, Cornelia, Richie and co. A brilliant experience...
